Val Senales (Schnalstal) Ski Area

The glacier skiing area with snow guarantee in South Tyrol

This glacier ski area, situated in the pristine Val Senales, offers 30 kilometres of runs ranging up to an altitude of 3,200 metres. Winter sports enthusiasts will find a varied ski area here set against a truly unique landscape.

Top ski athletes from all around the world come to the Val Senales glacier, which is near the site where Ötzi the Iceman was found, for ski training. The valley descent along the glacier is 8 km long in winter, and it takes only 6 minutes for skiers to return to the glacier on the cable car. In addition to 30 kilometres of runs, Val Senales Ski Area offers a 3.3 km toboggan run, glacier cross-country trails with guaranteed snow coverage, and more than 300 km of signposted trails for winter hikers of all experience levels. Majestic summit goals, including Palla Bianco (Weißkugel) Peak towering at 3,738 metres above sea level, make for a true nature paradise for snowshoe hikers and ski tourers. There are few ski touring areas in the Alps where you can reach so many three thousanders without long climbs as in Val Senales. The valley is also an entry point to the Ötztaler Runde circuit, one of the most popular Hautes Routes in the eastern Alps.

Your children are in good hands at the Ötzilino Club. Professional counsellors ensure that the children at the club feel comfortable and can enjoy an exciting day in the snow. The littlest ones entertain themselves on snow slides, building snowmen, at the winter playground, or doing crafts. Parents, meanwhile, can enjoy some carefree skiing themselves knowing that their kids are safe and secure.

Children who attend the ski school - even if only for a few hours - are always welcome at the Ötzlino Club.

The new black-labeled run is a training track for slalom and giant slalom specialists, offering the international elite in Alpine skiing the possibility to complete challenging workouts at the Senales Valley glacier skiing area in early autumn. The total length of 550 meters can be covered with artificial snow when necessary. This results in an ideal, non-slip surface for professionals. But watch out: with a drop of 200 meters and an inclination of almost 60%, the Leo Gurschler ski slope is for experts only!

Several ski and cross-country teams from around the world prepare at the Val Senales Glacier for the upcoming season. The ski training season started this year already on the 2nd of September.

The ideal high altitude, guaranteed snow, perfectly groomed slopes and minimal waiting time for ski lifts all make the Val Senales Glacier a well-known high altitude training destination for world class athletes. Since 2016, the Val Senales Glacier Ski Resort is official partner of the Italian Ski Federation FISI and the Austrian Ski Federation ÖSV. A special highlight in the calendar of events in Val Senales is the “FISI in Tour - Gran Finale” taking place from 21st to 23rd April 2017.
